“He has shown you what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8

FROM HEAD TO HEART: A RACIAL HEALING PATH TO SPIRITUAL FORMATION

We are called to participate in God’s ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:17-19). From Head to Heart meets in the 1st & 3rd Wednesday night (7:00PM) of the month. This ministry focuses on the following basic characteristics:

  1. Immersion - exposure to a variety of cultural events, music, theater, articles etc.

  2. Proximity - just being around each other, sharing meals and conversation.

  3. Truth-telling - Each member of the group will have a chance to share their experiences around race that have shaped their current racial attitudes and assumptions.

  4. Empathy building - Once group members have listened to a person’s story, they will have a chance to ask that person questions for greater understanding.

  5. Increasing self awareness - Identifying emotions and some ways in which we’ve experienced racial trauma. Intentional pursuit of freedom from self-defeating reactions that we experience when that trauma is triggered by present-day events.

  6. Praying - Praying for each other to receive the Lord’s healing, wisdom and insight concerning a specific racial trauma.

  7. Exploring - Discovering small, meaningful steps that we can take to be a good neighbor to our friends of a different race.

Here is a list of resources that have been helpful to us.
