RISEN AT THE BAY

The Christmas season lasts 12 days, starting on Christmas Eve and continuing through to Epiphany on January 6th. This is in accordance with the traditional liturgical calendar of the Church. To continue our celebration of Christ as the Light of the World, we invite you to join us for a special Christmas Tree Bonfire at Parque Mission Bay in Mission Bay on Sunday, December 28th, at 10:00 AM. This gathering will be a time of worship, reflection, and fellowship as we commemorate the light of Christ in our lives. Bring your family and friends, beach chairs and blankets, and let’s celebrate together by the fire!

ORDER OF WORSHIP

WELCOME (Pastor Jess)

LIGHTING OF THE FIRE (TRAVIS)

SONG 1: The First Noel (WESLEY & PHIL)

[Verse 1]

The first Noel

The angels did say

Was to certain poor

Shepherds in fields as they lay:

In fields where they

Lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

[Chorus]

Noel Noel, Noel Noel

Born is the King of Israel.

[Verse 2]

They looked up

And saw a star

Shining in the east beyond them far:

And to the earth

And so it continued both day and night.

[Verse 3]

Then let us all

With one accord

Sing praises to our heavenly Lord,

That hath made heav'n

And earth of nought,

And with his blood mankind has bought.

Scripture Passage (MARTIN)

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness, a light has dawned. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:2, 6-7)

“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world… The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”( John 1:9,14)

SONG 2: Holy Spirit/I am Set Free (WESLEY & PHIL)

[Verse 1]

There's nothing worth more,that will

ever come close

No thing can compare, You're our

living hope

Your Presence (Lord)

[Verse 2]

I've tasted and seen, of the

sweetest of Loves

Where my heart becomes free, and my shame is undone

In Your Presence (Lord)

[Chorus]

Holy Spirit You are welcome here

Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere

Your Glory God is what our hearts long for

To be overcome by Your Presence Lord

[Verse 3]

You broke my chains of sin and shame

And You covered me with grace

And You mend my life with Your holy fire

You cover me with grace

and You are the hand that reaches out to save

[Chorus]

I am set free, oh oh oh oh

I am set free, oh oh oh oh

It is for freedom, that I am set free

[Bridge]

Let us become more aware of Your

Presence

Let us experience the Glory of Your

Goodness

[Chorus]

I am set free, oh oh oh oh

I am set free, oh oh oh oh

It is for freedom, that I am set free

[Chorus]

Holy Spirit You are welcome here

Come flood this place and fill the

atmosphere

Your Glory God is what our hearts long for

To be overcome by Your Presence Lord

LITANY (PASTOR JESS)

People: Why do we celebrate Christ as the light of the whole world today?

Leader: We celebrate that God's salvation is available to all people.

People: Why is Jesus known as our light in darkness?

Leader: Remember the words of the Isaiah "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined" (Isa. 9:2).

People: We have heard that Jesus said, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).

Leader: "This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness as all" (1 John 1:5).

People: "Come let us walk in the light of the Lord" (Isa. 2:5).

Leader: "You are the light of the world… let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and give glory to your Father, who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:14—16)

People: May our lives lead people to God the way the star led the wise men to Jesus.

Leader:"Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you" (Isa. 60:1).

Brief Reflection (PASTOR MARTIN)

  1. The Light Enters the Darkness.

  2. The Light Reveals…

  3. The Light is Shared…

Better Is One Day (WESLEY & PHIL)

[Verse 1]

How lovely is Your dwelling place,

oh Lord Almighty

My soul longs and even faints for You

For here my heart is satisfied,

within Your presence

I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

[Chorus]

Better is one day in Your courts

Better is one day in Your house

Better is one day in Your courts

Than thousands elsewhere

[Verse 2]

One thing I ask and I would seek,

to see Your beauty

To find You in the place Your glory dwells

[Bridge]

My heart and flesh cry out,

for You the living God

Your spirit's water to my soul

I've tasted and I've seen,

come once again to me

I will draw near to You

I will draw near to You

[Chorus B]

Better is one day

Better is one day

Better is one day

Than thousands elsewhere
